Bundaberg Catholic Funeral Ministry
This group formed ten years ago and assists in the preparation of Catholic funerals, celebrates them when no Requiem Mass is requested, assists at Masses for the Dead, and conducts twice-yearly Memorial Services to assist families in the grieving process.
There are three levels of participation:
- Full involvement - A family interview to prepare the Funeral Liturgy, conducting the Liturgy and presiding at the graveside or crematorium.
- Preparation Assistant / Assistant to the Liturgy Presider - Involving the family interview and assisting at the Liturgy.
- General Assistant - Assisting the Preparation Assistant at the interview and the Presider at the Liturgy and graveside.
Entry to this ministry follows pre-service of three 1.5 hour sessions and supervised assistance at a number of funerals conducted by experienced ministers.
Memorial Services are held each year in May and November with invitations mailed to bereaved families.
Continuing formation and feedback meetings are held two or three times a year. For enquiries regarding this ministry contact the Co-ordinator Brother Peter Sheldon CFC at the Parish office 41516666 or after hours on 4151 3584.
